Unlike Hollywood love, Christian love toward fellow believers or toward others in general does not spring from an impulse of feelings or a special affinity. It acts in obedience to Scripture (see I Corinthians 13; Colossians 3: 12-14) and is not self-centered but seeks to please God. Showing love helps the undeserving to see the Holy Spirit at work and helps us reverence God, who initiates that kind of love for each one of us.

God expects us to love others. …”love your neighbor as yourself” (Read Matthew 22: 36-39 NIV). As the familiar chorus says, “They will know we are Christians by our love.”
