19: About Gentleness
From Touching
the Clouds: Encouraging Stories to Make Your Faith
Soar
Gentleness is not always respected in our society, but it
is love in action—having a teachable spirit, being
considerate, placing the needs of others above our own. The
selfishness that drives a carnal, domineering attitude can
only be tamed by the work of the Holy Spirit, as described
by Paul: “But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives
he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and
self-control; and here there is no conflict with Jewish laws” (Galations
5: 22 TLB).
The gentle one allows Christ to comfort her: “Your
adornment must not be merely external—braiding the
hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but
let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable
quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in
the sight of God” (I Peter 3: 3-4 NASB).
