15: About Prayer
From Touching
the Clouds: Encouraging Stories to Make Your Faith
Soar
Mable Dumas, wife, mother and Bible teacher made a commitment
to spend one hour each day in prayer. She said, “Anyone
can be as close to God as he or she wants to be. He is willing
and waiting. I use my divine imagination when reading Scripture
and imagine myself running barefoot through the Psalms, finding
words that speak of God’s guidance, listening, answering,
understanding, waiting, forgiving, watching. When I think
of the Bible as words and thoughts from the mind of God,
time spent with Him is always exciting, never boring. I have
discovered that God doesn’t want my day. He wants me.”
Mable wrote the following “Mind Programmers” when
she was going through a deep trial in her life. She recorded
them on a flip chart and they have been shared around the
world: These are only a sampling—
- Prayer is not primarily getting my “want list” before
the Lord. It is, first and foremost, getting “me” into
His presence!
- God has no problems…only plans!
- This trial is not “by chance” but by
divine permission!
- During trials and tests, God puts you “center stage” and
turns on the “spotlight,” Saying: “Let
Me demonstrate and prove what I am in the life of this
child of Mine!”
It is clear from Scripture that prayer and faith walk hand
in hand. We are urged to “pray without ceasing” (I
Thessalonians 5: 17). For the believer, prayer is not optional;
it is essential to maintaining a viable relationship with
the living God.
