11: About God’s Character
From Touching
the Clouds: Encouraging Stories to Make Your Faith
Soar
Trusting God involves concentrating on the object of our
trust. A few years ago my husband, Jim, and I took sailing
lessons. The gems of instruction we received in the classroom
did not become completely clear to us until we set sail.
For instance, a boat anchor is not adequately tested in the
harbor. It is during the storm—when the waves are crashing
and the boat is pitching in all directions—that the
integrity of the anchor is tested. Likewise, it is during
our times of depression or despair that we can truly know
God’s faithfulness. God is our anchor of hope. He is
for us and He never fails.
When reading your Bible, note in the margin each time one
of God’s character traits—Loving, Holy, Faithful,
Compassionate, Merciful, Immutable (unchanging), Omnipresent
(always present everywhere), Omniscient (all-wise), Omnipotent
(all-powerful), Just, Supreme—is demonstrated. Knowing
God is essential to our faith.
