10: Steadfastness
From Touching
the Clouds: Encouraging Stories to Make Your Faith
Soar
The Greek word for steadfast means: “to be
firm and sure.” Similar words denote strength, foundation,
and support. I’ve seen some huge rock mountains, especially
in Canada, and boulders that could not be moved or broken,
apart from an act of God. Even that word picture is one used
in Scripture to describe His steadfast character and the
steadfastness we should exhibit because of it.
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable,
always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your
toil is not in vain in the Lord” (I Corinthians 15:
58 NASB).
I do not believe we can separate our trust in God’s
steadfastness from the knowledge of God’s love. It
is easy to trust and have faith when things are going our
way, but we are tempted to question and doubt when problems
start piling up. God’s infinite love cannot be measured,
and this knowledge gives us comfort and security. When we
choose to trust our steadfast God of love in times of darkness,
our choice becomes a stabilizing force in our own hearts
and becomes a beacon of light to those around us.
